Description:

The main external items of note in this church are the late 13th-century S doorway with its three orders of shafts and many mouldings in the arch; the flowing 14th-century, Decorated, tracery in the chancel windows; the four-light E window together with the large and varied windows on the S which make a fine display; a head corbel on the E wall; and the early Perpendicular W tower with a higher stair-turret and an arch towards the nave which still has Decorated mouldings. Moving inside, the foremost items are the Perpendicular arcades of tall octagonal piers and many-moulded arches; the late 15th-century roofs over the aisles and nave, the latter with its arch braces from the tie-beams to the ridge; the Perpendicular octagonal font, with its tracery panels and shields in foils; the Perpendicular screen with its two-light divisions; the 15th-century sculptured lower half of a wooden figure in the N aisle; many fragments of 15th-century stained glass in the S aisle E window, probably from a Jesse Tree; and a wall tablet as well as a c. 1487 brass in the chancel area. There was restoration work on the church by R.C. Hussey before 1862, and by Sir George Gilbert Scott in 1873-4.
